Download a New Album From Oval for Free

After nearly a decade off, German glitch pioneer Markus Popp, aka Oval, returned in 2010 with the Oh EP and massive double album, O, both released via Thrill Jockey. (In 2012 Oval also released the OvalDNA compilation.) Now Popp has released a new, full-length record for free via his website, as Ad Hoc notes. Update: Stream a preview of the album, below.

Titled Calidostópia!, its 16 tracks were recorded over ten days in a Brazil studio with seven different singers from around South America. It was funded by the Goethe Institute and the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia. Popp writes on his website, “This might be only the beginning. Watch this space. Also, live shows.”

UPDATE: Thrill Jockey will also reissue the first two Oval records, 1994’s Systemich and 1995’s 94diskont, on vinyl April 20 for Record Store Day. 94diskont will include remixes by Jim O’Rourke, Mouse on Mars, Scanner and Christian Vogel.
