J.J. Abrams Turns Down ‘Star Wars’

Regardless of how this film is going to get made, Abrams is the first to publicly announce his non-involvement (please do not get me started on the Disney Machine).

“There were the very early conversations, and I quickly said that, because of my loyalty to ‘Star Trek’ and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things,” Abrams said in an interview with Empire UK Magazine. “I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”

Add Abrams and his Trekkie predilections to a growing list of decliners including Brad Bird (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino. I can only imagine what a Star Wars-obsessed Tarantino would have done with episodes seven, eight and nine. It certainly would  have been epic, especially since Tarantino is the headmaster of the Spaghetti Western School of Film-making . You lose, Hollywood. You lose.

As I don’t exactly have high hopes for this film, Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) is one of my favorite directors so I guess we will have to wait and see.

Live long and prosper, J.J. Good for you for playing the Trekkie card.
