Jabee,”Dreams”

As hip hop tries to untangle itself from the ‘Hair Metal’ phase, new voices like Oklahoma City rapper Jabee bring the beat back to basics.

This Cadence-produced single ‘Dreams’,  comes from the new album ‘Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt’.  The song opens gently with a haunting piano that floats throughout, even after the entry of the boom-bap.  The song evokes feelings of innocence lost and renewed focus on the future. Jabee’s experience as a youth is portrayed in his delivery (names from Ronald Reagan to Malcolm X are dropped). So as the re-birth of cool continues, add Jabee to your list of MC’s to watch in 2014.
